HALLOWEEN

HALLOWEEN

We all wear masks for one day

Hidden behind false facades openly

Wait for dusk, explore hallowed ground anew

Sheets of white cut from racist pasts

Monsters walk freely among children

Decapitated pumpkins burning

Jack splattered across cool cement

poor begging for a bite to eat

stranger offering unknown treat

Sweaty eyeholes peer through

Shadowed darker thoughts

Up at the witching hour

Then down again…waiting

another year to pass
